What should you know about Engineered Oak flooring?
Our team of specialists uses both traditional and advanced technologies, processing a durable oak in modern ways to create special, durable, and unique floors. Staki engineered floor stand out as an excellent choice for heated floors because they are durable, stable and have excellent thermal conductivity. These floors are made from natural materials and are therefore allergy-free.
Engineered floors are two-layer parquet flooring, manufactured by industrial gluing natural oak and veneer. The upper layer of STAKI parquet board is 4 or 6 mm thick, single-stripe oak panel (lamella). The natural surface of wood gives a pleasant feeling of warmth to your feet. This layer wears off slowly over the years, so the thicker it is, the more times you can grind the floor. To make the floor last longer, it is covered with varnish or oil. Varnish forms a protective layer that prevents the floor from scratching and wearing. Meanwhile, oil is absorbed into the wood, filling the surface pores, increasing the resistance of the parquet to environmental factors and enhancing the natural beauty of the wood.
Staki engineered floors are treated only with natural LED oil, without volatile solvents. We have a wide range of oiled and varnished floors, where interior designers will find shades suitable for different styles.
The second layer is a multi-layered birch veneer. Birch veneer is strong, sturdy, moisture-resistant and provides excellent sound insulation. The veneer is made of many layers of birch shell, glued and pressed together so that the wood grain does not coincide. For this reason, if the temperature or humidity changes, the floor will not expand in one direction and thus looks like new for longer. It is because of the stability of the veneer that you can safely choose wider engineered floor without worrying about warping. STAKI makes 180 and 220 mm wide engineered flooring. The engineered boards have bevel cuts along edges, which highlight each connected board. Engineered floor can be mounted with wood screws on a wooden base or glued directly to the concrete. No additional underlay is used for the installation of the engineered flooring.
What engineered flooring can be laid on the heated floor?
These wooden floors are often used for heated floors due to their excellent thermal conductivity. When choosing a flooring with a heated floor system, it is very important that the thermal resistance of the flooring does not exceed 0.15 m²K/W. The lower the thermal resistance, the better the floor transfers heat to the environment. STAKI recommends choosing 15.5 mm thick engineered floor with a thermal resistance of only 0.09 m²K/W. To lay oak engineered flooring on a heated underlay, it is necessary to ensure that the heat is evenly distributed over the entire floor area. In addition, the amplitude of temperature changes should be small. The recommended limit of temperature change is 2-4°C per day, regardless of whether you increase or decrease the floor temperature. With the heating on, the temperature of the wooden floor surface should never exceed +27 °C.
